Common questions about PrivBgCut — offline processing, licenses, refunds, and more.
Are my images uploaded anywhere? Does it work offline?
No uploads, and yes — it works fully offline. PrivBgCut has no servers and makes no network requests during processing. The ONNX models run locally on your CPU, bundled with the installer. You can verify this by disconnecting from the internet: the app behaves exactly the same.
Do I need an account or a credit card for the trial?
No. Download, open, and the full version is available for 7 days. There is no sign-up, no email, no card, and no activation step.
What happens when the 7 days end?
The app switches to a locked state and shows an activation screen. Nothing is charged automatically, no files on your computer are touched, and nothing is uploaded. You can buy a license, or uninstall.
Why is there no permanent free version?
An offline desktop tool has no server costs offset by free users. Instead of shifting to a subscription, we keep the price a one-time purchase and give a full-featured 7-day trial. If 7 days isn't enough to judge it, it's probably not the tool for you.
Is the license really permanent?
Yes. One payment, no renewal. You can reinstall on the same machine without paying again. Updates, including new model files, are free.
Where do I find my machine ID?
Open the app and look at the right panel, just above the "Activate license" button. The machine ID is shown there with a copy button. Paste it into the field on the pricing section before checkout.
Which platforms are supported?
Windows 10 and 11, on CPUs with AVX2 (most machines made after 2013). macOS and Linux are not officially tested yet and are not offered for download.
How is this different from online background removers?
Online tools upload your image to a server, and usually limit free downloads to a thumbnail. Here everything runs locally, your original file never leaves your machine, and the trial exports at your original resolution. See the full comparison →
Can I use the results commercially?
Yes. Anything you produce with the app, during the trial or after buying, is yours to use commercially.
Windows shows an “Unknown publisher” warning. Is that normal?
Yes. PrivBgCut is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn on first launch. Click More info, then Run anyway. You do not need to disable SmartScreen or your antivirus. Full steps, including how to verify the SHA-256 checksum, are on the installation guide.
How does the trial compare to free tiers of online tools?
Online background removers usually cap their free tier in ways the trial does not: low-resolution previews only (often 0.25 megapixels), a limited number of exports per month, watermarks, or a mandatory account with an email and sometimes a card. PrivBgCut's 7-day trial has none of those limits — you process as many images as you want, at full resolution, with every model and batch export unlocked. The trial is the full product, not a restricted preview.
Why is the installer so large?
The installer bundles everything needed to run fully offline: the ONNX background-removal models, the application itself, and a WebView2 offline installer. The models account for most of the size — they are large by design, because running them locally is what makes the app work without a server. Nothing is downloaded on first launch; the download you make is the only download. On machines that already have the WebView2 Runtime (Windows 11 and most recent Windows 10 builds), that part of the installer is skipped and the installed footprint is smaller.
Does the installer or activation need an internet connection?
No. The installer is self-contained and runs offline. Activation is verified locally against a license key bound to your machine ID — no server call is made. You can install, activate, and use PrivBgCut on a machine that has never been connected to the internet.
Why is there no subscription option?
Because PrivBgCut does not connect to the internet, the app has no way to periodically verify a subscription — and we would not add a network check just to enable one. Instead we offer a one-time 30-day pass or a permanent license. Both are paid once, work offline, and never auto-renew. This also means there is no account, no email reminder, and no risk of an unexpected charge.
How soon will I receive my license after payment?
Your license is generated automatically by the payment provider's webhook and emailed within a few minutes. The email goes to the address you enter on the payment page. If it does not arrive within 10 minutes, check your spam folder, then email support@privbgcut.pocketjoy.fun with your order details.
What email should I use on the payment page?
The email you can actually receive mail at — that is where your license goes. It is not a website account; PrivBgCut has no accounts. You can use a different email for each purchase.
Can I buy a 30-day pass if I already have a permanent license?
No. A permanent license covers everything a 30-day pass covers, forever, so the system blocks this purchase and shows a message instead of charging you. If you see that message and believe it is a mistake, email support@privbgcut.pocketjoy.fun.
What happens to my license if I request a refund?
When a refund is approved, we revoke the license record tied to your machine ID on our side, so it can't be used for a new activation or reinstall. Because PrivBgCut validates licenses offline, the copy already on your computer may keep working until you uninstall the app or clear its data. So when a refund is issued, we ask you to uninstall PrivBgCut and delete the license from the app's activation window. The refunded license can't be transferred or reused.
